What is Creator fund?
A creator fund is a pool of money distributed by a social media platform to creators based on video views or content performance, designed to incentivise content creation on the platform.
TikTok's Creator Fund was the most prominent example, paying eligible creators a per-view rate from a fixed pool. The rate was notoriously low (often $0.02-$0.04 per 1,000 views), and as more creators joined, the per-creator payout shrank. TikTok replaced it with the Creativity Program for longer content.
YouTube's Partner Program is the more established version: creators earning ad revenue share from monetised watch hours. The revenue per 1,000 views (RPM) varies by content category and viewer geography, ranging from $1 to $20+ for premium niches.
Creator funds are not a viable primary income for most creators. Brand deals, affiliate programs, and direct monetisation through platforms typically pay significantly more. Creator funds serve better as a baseline signal of platform distribution rather than a serious income stream.
