Every Instagram image and video size in pixels, with the safe zones that stop the interface covering your text.
Takes the most vertical space in the feed, so this is the default choice when reach matters.
| Format | Pixels | Ratio |
|---|---|---|
| Feed post, portrait | 1080 x 1350 | 4:5 |
| Feed post, square | 1080 x 1080 | 1:1 |
| Feed post, landscape | 1080 x 566 | 1.91:1 |
| Reel | 1080 x 1920 | 9:16 |
| Story | 1080 x 1920 | 9:16 |
| Reel cover on the grid | 1080 x 1920 | 9:16 cropped to 4:5 |
| Profile picture | 320 x 320 | 1:1 |
| Story highlight cover | 1080 x 1920 | 9:16 cropped to a circle |
Instagram resizes anything wider than 1080 pixels and re-compresses anything outside a supported aspect ratio. A 4000 pixel export is not higher quality on Instagram, it is just a bigger file for the encoder to crush.
A carousel applies the aspect ratio of the first slide to every slide after it. If slide one is square and slide four is portrait, slide four gets cropped. Decide the ratio before you design the set.
Once the post is sized correctly, the next question is what it asks people to do. How to post on Instagram covers captions and the comment-a-keyword ask that turns a post into leads.
