• Thirty characters maximum.
• Letters, numbers, periods and underscores only. No spaces, no dashes, no accents, no emoji.
• A period cannot start or end the name, and two periods cannot sit next to each other.
• Usernames are case insensitive, so YourBrand and yourbrand are the same account.

Why the confirm step is a real link

Instagram has no public availability API, and every tool that claims a definitive answer is guessing from a page scrape that breaks quietly and gets rate limited. Opening the profile URL is the only check that is always correct: a profile means taken, a Sorry, this page isn't available means free. We do the rules filtering so you only spend that tap on names Instagram would actually accept.

One catch worth knowing. A name can look free and still be blocked because it belongs to a deactivated account or a trademark hold, and Instagram only tells you at signup.

Picking a handle you will not outgrow

• Skip the year and the niche you might leave. Renaming later costs you every tagged link.
• Keep it typeable out loud. Underscores and repeated periods lose people who heard it in a Reel.
• Instagram search matches the username and the name field, so put your keyword in one of them.
• Take the same handle on TikTok and YouTube now, even if you do not post there yet. Check with the username generator if you need alternatives.
