What is Niche?
A niche is the specific topic, industry, or audience segment a creator focuses on, which determines the brands they attract, the campaigns they qualify for, and their ability to command premium rates.
Niche creators outperform generalist creators in brand deals because they deliver a pre-qualified audience. A creator focused on vegan meal prep attracts food and wellness brands whose ideal customer already follows that content. The audience is warm by definition.
Going niche feels counterintuitive (smaller audience), but it typically results in higher engagement rates, better brand partnership fit, and higher CPM for advertisers targeting that demographic. A fitness creator with 20k followers can earn more per post than a general lifestyle creator with 100k.
Creators should pick a niche they can sustain producing content in for years, not just what is trending. Niche authority compounds: the longer you create in a space, the more the algorithm surfaces you for that topic and the more brand inbound you receive.
