What is Engagement rate?

Engagement rate is the percentage of a creator’s audience that interacts with their content, calculated as total engagements (likes, comments, shares, saves) divided by followers or reach, times 100.

Engagement rate is a key signal of how active and genuine an audience is. A high rate often matters more to brands than raw follower count.

Typical Instagram engagement rates fall between 1% and 5%, with smaller accounts usually scoring higher than large ones.
