Plans, credits and subscriptions are three different things and get confused constantly. A plan sets what your account can do and is billed monthly or annually. Credits meter specific actions inside the product and are consumed as you use them. Money held in escrow for a collaboration is neither of those, it is campaign spend, and cancelling a plan does not touch it.
Every paid plan has a free tier below it that is genuinely usable rather than a trial, so you can run real work before deciding whether an upgrade is worth it. Upgrades take effect immediately and are prorated. Downgrades take effect at the end of the current billing period, so you keep what you paid for until it runs out.
