Yes, ManyChat is safe. It is an official Meta Business Partner, it connects to Instagram through Meta's own messaging API, and it never asks for your Instagram password. Using it the normal way, comment-to-DM replies and answering people who message you, will not get your account banned. What gets accounts restricted is something else: unofficial tools that log in as you, and messages people report as spam.
Below is what ManyChat actually holds, the rules Meta sets for automated Instagram DMs, and the specific things that do put an account at risk. Facts about ManyChat come from its own security page as of November 2026. Meta's limits come from its developer documentation.
Is ManyChat approved by Instagram?
ManyChat is an official Meta Business Partner. Its security page says that as part of that status it complies with Meta Platform data security requirements and Meta's Data Use Policy, and goes through periodic Data Use Checkups and Meta compliance audits. Meta can revoke partner status, so it is a status that has to be kept, not a one-off badge.
Partner status means the tool is approved. It does not mean every automation you build is approved. If you set up a flow that breaks Meta's messaging rules, the tool being official does not protect the account. The rules are below.
Is ManyChat secure with your data?
- SOC 2 Type II: ManyChat says it is SOC 2 Type II compliant, audited by A-LIGN over an observation period, and customers can request the report.
- ISO/IEC 27001:2022: its information security management system is certified by BSI Group.
- ISO/IEC 42001: its AI management system is certified, also by A-LIGN.
- Encryption: TLS 1.2 in transit and FIPS 140-2 compliant encryption at rest.
- Data location: production data sits in AWS data centers in Frankfurt.
- Privacy frameworks: certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, including the UK Extension.
- No password: you connect Instagram through Meta's login screen, so ManyChat never holds your Instagram password.
Will Instagram ban you for auto DMs?
Not for using an official tool inside Meta's rules. Meta publishes an API specifically so businesses and creators can automate Instagram messages, and comment-to-DM is a documented feature of that API called private replies. Accounts run into trouble in three situations.
- Unofficial tools that log in with your password. Instagram's Terms of Use say you can't access or collect information in an automated way without its express permission. Browser bots, mass-follow tools, and apps that ask for your password and act as you sit outside the API, and they are what Instagram detects and restricts. ManyChat and other API tools never ask for your password.
- Messages people report as spam. An official tool still sends whatever you write. Unrequested promotional blasts, misleading keyword bait, or the same link to everyone who comments on an unrelated post get reported, and reports count against the account.
- Breaking the messaging windows. Meta only lets you message people who contacted you first, within set time limits. Approved tools enforce these for you, but a workaround that sends outside them, or misuses a message tag, can get the account's messaging restricted.
Is DM automation allowed by Meta? The rules
- The 24-hour window: when someone messages you, you have 24 hours to reply, and replies inside that window can be promotional.
- Comment private replies: when someone comments on your post or reel, you can send them one private reply, within 7 days of the comment. After that you can only message them again if they reply and open a new 24-hour window.
- Human agent tag: a person, not an automation, can reply up to 7 days after the last message to finish a conversation that could not be resolved in 24 hours.
- Ad conversations: since a Meta change dated September 28, 2026, the standard window can run up to 7 days for conversations that start from a Click-to-Direct ad. Other conversations keep 24 hours.
- No cold DMs: the API cannot message someone who never contacted you. Any tool claiming to DM strangers in bulk is not using the official API.
How many automated DMs can you send?
Meta's documentation sets call limits, not a daily DM cap. The one most creators can hit is 750 comment private replies per hour per Instagram professional account. A viral reel with a keyword comment can reach that, and replies past the limit are refused by the API, not sent later by Meta, so a good tool queues them. The often-quoted figure of 200 automated DMs an hour is a pacing number some tools chose. Meta does not set it.
How to automate Instagram DMs without risking your account
- Use a tool that connects through Meta's login and never asks for your password.
- Only send the thing people asked for. If the comment keyword is LINK, send the link.
- Keep keyword triggers specific to the post, so you are not replying to unrelated comments.
- Do not use follow-for-follow, mass-like, or scraping tools on the same account.
- Let your tool queue replies when a post goes viral rather than trying to beat the hourly limit.
Is Elev8or Engage just as safe?
We make Engage, so weigh this accordingly. Engage is a Verified Meta Tech Provider and runs on the same official Instagram messaging API as ManyChat. You connect through Meta's own login, so we never see your password and nothing is scraped. The difference is price: Engage's Free plan is free forever with unlimited contacts on comment-to-DM quick automations, while ManyChat bills by active contacts.
